Bob and Rita Marley Foundation, GoFundMe & Aljamain Sterling Launch Jamaica Relief Fund

Jamaica is currently facing one of its darkest moments, despite the island’s inspiration with its music, spirit, and strength. In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, a catastrophic Category 5 storm, countless families across the island have lost their homes, their livelihoods, and tragically, loved ones. The Bob and Rita Marley Foundation has partnered with UFC Bantamweight Champion Aljamain ‘Funk Master’ Sterling and GoFundMe to aid in the rebuilding process that was caused by the hurricane.

The Bob and Rita Marley Foundation Relief Fund has been announced to be launched. This global initiative aims to provide immediate and long-term support to communities in Jamaica affected by the storm.

“Jamaica has given the world so much—music, champions, and culture that touches hearts everywhere,” said a Foundation spokesperson. “Now it’s time for the world to give back.”

A Nation in Crisis

The most powerful storm in Jamaica’s recorded history was Hurricane Melissa, which made landfall as a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 185 mph on October 28. The storm ravaged communities, destroying homes, flattening crops, and leaving hundreds of thousands without power.
Officials in Jamaica have confirmed at least 28 deaths, which have contributed to a regional death toll in the Caribbean that has exceeded 60 by November 1. The hurricane lasted for a while before dissipating off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, after passing over Cuba, the Bahamas, and near Bermuda.

During an emotional press conference, Dana Morris Dixon, the Minister of Education, Skills, Youth and Information of Jamaica, stated, “We have never had a Category 5 hurricane in our country. The devastation in the west is unimaginable. Every single life lost is a huge tragedy.”

A Call for Global Unity

The Relief Fund that was recently launched is a partnership that is based on compassion and solidarity. All donations, 100% of the proceeds, will go directly to trusted local organizations and on-the-ground relief efforts providing emergency aid, rebuilding homes, and restoring essential services. Aljamain Sterling, whose roots are in Jamaica, has been a vocal advocate for the cause.

“This is personal for me,” Sterling said. “My family, my heritage, everything that made me who I am comes from Jamaica. Now it’s our turn to help the island get back on its feet.”

GoFundMe facilitates the easy contribution of supporters from around the globe, ensuring transparency and accessibility for donors who want to make an impact.

Honoring the Legacy of Bob and Rita Marley

The Bob and Rita Marley Foundation, inspired by the legendary couple’s lifelong commitment to love, unity, and humanitarianism, continues to promote projects that uplift and empower the Jamaican people. The Foundation’s participation in this relief effort shows its commitment to advancing the Marleys’ message of resilience and hope.

“One love means standing together—especially when times are hardest,” the Foundation shared in a statement.

Rebuilding the Island of Rhythm and Resilience

The Relief Fund is a bright light of hope as communities across Jamaica begin the long road to recovery. Every contribution is fuel for renewal and healing, from rebuilding homes to restoring schools and supporting displaced families. Jamaica’s rhythm has inspired dance, its athletes have inspired others, and the world has embraced its message of unity. As the island faces the aftermath of a historic disaster, it is asking the same global family to give back. The Bob and Rita Marley Foundation Relief Fund on GoFundMe offers a way to donate or learn more. Jamaica can emerge stronger, united, and full of life with our help.
